Enhancing Community.

At Schreiver SFB in Colorado Springs, the individual squadrons get to set their communities apart through mascots, chants, and art. This specific squadron chose Heimdall as their mascot, a god from old norse mythology, and all viking related themes.

Integrated Purpose.

Starting from the entrance doors to the main focal wall above is a ribbon of vinyl. As this 10’ wide by 2’ high design would be repeated many times it had to have a purpose, or a message.

Protection

On the left of the compass is the Viking rune for protection.

Vegvisir

The Vegvisir at the center, also known as the Viking Compass, is a symbol of protection and guidance believed to be used by Vikings. The name Vegvisir means “sign post” or “way finder” in Icelandic, and it is thought to be a powerful rune that helps its bearer find their way through rough weather and dangerous terrain.

Courage

On the right of the compass is the Viking rune for courage.

Unfortunately as all photography is prohibited on base, I will not be able to receive a photo of the completed project.
