iRetro

An arcade console built around a laptop.

When asked to create an interactive object using Arduino interfaces, the first idea that came to mind was a video game, because what is more interactive than that? Something that I have always found intriguing is the world of retro arcade games, like Pac-Man or Space Invaders. The design of the video games themselves and the consoles that they were put in provided an immersive experience at the time. In many ways better than any television or Xbox can provide today. Other than design and coding skills I would need in order to execute my idea, I knew the enclosure would make all the difference. So, by using p5.js, Arduino, simple electronics and foam board, I was able to create a vintage gaming experience that can be played from home.

Take it Step by Step.

Before transferring the game play to serial communication, the game was made keyboard compatible. Below you can play the game.

A Thorough Process.

Weeks of planning, failures, and re-designs went into this arcade console. To the right, the full documentation on a process blog can be found.
