Find your musical identity.

Each and every one of us has a unique reaction to music—our favorites are not what we like but what our brain likes.

Our Project.

Ryan Vandersmith and I shared an interest in music, as we all probably do. However, we set out to understand the reason why we are all attracted to certain music using Spotify’s open source API. Spotify numerically categorizes musical principles such as valence, liveness and danceability, which we transformed into visual cues, recognizable to users within our visualizer.

Consisting of a “karaoke book” style web application, musical visualizer, and an accompanying workbook, users will be able to identify specific aspects of their musical identity that transcend genre or artists.

Make Connections.

Our interactive and informative installation was showcased at the ATLAS Institute’s Expo where dozens of listeners were able to have fun and understand their preferences.

  • Design it.

Using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator we created a custom workbook to share our inspiration and provide room for self discoveries.

    PDF
  • Code it.

It all begins with an idea. And with Ryan and I’s collaborations we were able to make it come to life. This GitHub repository houses all the efforts we made in the months this project extended.
